YouTube is taking a significant step in improving healthcare communication in India by collaborating with healthcare professionals and institutions to make reliable, evidence-based health information more accessible. With millions turning to the platform for health-related advice, YouTube aims to provide viewers with trustworthy content directly from verified healthcare sources.

In 2023 alone, over 6 million health-related videos were uploaded in India, accumulating 75 billion views. This shows how integral YouTube has become in helping people navigate their healthcare journeys. Now, the platform is introducing tools to ensure users can easily find accurate and professional health content.

Key Features to Find Reliable Health Information

  1. Health Source Information Panels: These panels will appear under health-related videos to indicate content created by registered healthcare professionals and trusted institutions.
  2. Health Content Shelves: When users search for health topics, videos from credible sources will be featured more prominently, helping to ensure they get reliable information.

Initially, these features will be available to well-known institutions like AIIMS, Apollo Hospitals, Max Healthcare, and NIMHANS. However, YouTube is expanding eligibility to include registered doctors, nurses, and mental health professionals who meet specific criteria.

How Healthcare Creators Can Get Involved

Healthcare professionals looking to take part in this initiative must meet the following requirements:

  • Be a registered healthcare provider.
  • Follow best practices for sharing health information as outlined by the World Health Organization (WHO) and other relevant medical bodies.
  • Have a YouTube channel in good standing.

Healthcare professionals who meet these requirements can apply through health.youtube. Once verified, their content will be marked with health source panels and placed in health content sections for easier access.

Offering Health Content in Multiple Languages

In addition to improving the quality of health content, YouTube is expanding its coverage to include more than 140 health conditions. The platform will offer information in several languages, including Hindi, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Gujarati, Bengali, Malayalam, Punjabi, and English, to cater to India’s diverse linguistic population.

YouTube’s new multi-language audio feature will allow users to switch between different languages, ensuring that people can access health content in the language they are most comfortable with.

Partnerships with Leading Healthcare Institutions

YouTube is also collaborating with major healthcare institutions like AIIMS, Apollo Hospitals, Manipal Hospitals, Medanta Hospital, and Narayana Health to create authoritative health content. These partnerships will ensure that accurate, reliable information reaches a wide audience, addressing both physical and mental health concerns.

With these new efforts, YouTube is making healthcare information easier to access, ensuring that viewers have access to trustworthy content in multiple languages. By partnering with healthcare professionals and institutions, YouTube is helping bridge the gap in healthcare communication across India.
