Google has announced the rollout of ChromeOS M131, introducing a helpful new feature called “Safety reset,” which allows Chromebook users to reset their devices without losing important data. The update also includes a new “Flash notifications” option aimed at improving accessibility for users who may have difficulty hearing or seeing notifications.

Unlike the full factory reset option, known as Powerwash, the new Safety reset feature fixes issues like pop-ups or virus-like behavior while keeping local data, apps, bookmarks, and saved passwords intact. Users can initiate the Safety reset by pressing CTRL + Shift + Search + R, or by navigating to the “Safety and privacy” settings menu. Alternatively, you can search for terms like “Pop-up,” “Spam,” or “Virus” in Settings or Launcher.

In addition to the Safety reset, ChromeOS M131 introduces a “Flash notifications” setting within the accessibility options. This feature adds a visual cue, flashing a color of your choice to alert users who may struggle to hear or see sound notifications. A preview button lets users see how the flash will appear, making notifications more noticeable for those who rely on screen magnification or have hearing impairments.

These new features aim to improve the overall user experience, making Chromebooks more accessible and user-friendly.
